5 psychological tricks in product photography and product mock-ups. How to sell more?

In the realm of online business, consumers “buy with their eyes“. That is why you must provide them with clear, eye-catching, and detailed photos, showing the details of our product. Every product needs to be described well enough not only by words but also by photos and pictures. And these photos (product photography) differ from photos designed for social media (informative or funny). Though an Instagram page or Pinterest profile may sell as well as an online shop, we must have a different approach when taking or choosing product photos.

Anyway, what makes a good photo? Mock-up Master provides you with plenty of photos and mock-ups, but it is you who decides which is the most appropriate product photo/background you could apply. Below are a few tips on increasing your conversion:

1/ The graphic elements in the mock-up must “speak” clearly enough. You cannot assume that the visitor of your page (be it your ideal customer or not) will read the text (if any). No words and text are needed in the below T-shirt example:

2/ Choose and regularly use lifestyle photos. They must depict people whose profile is identical to your ideal customer/perfect consumer. Such mock-ups would make your target audience feel and consider the product an important part of their everyday life:

3/ Optimize your mock-up images for Google. The search engine does not have its own eyes, but it assesses text information. So, you should optimize the file title and description. Thus, you are likely to increase the web traffic to your site through google images. For example, instead of “cool apparel” you can use the long-tail keyword “premium quality clothes for teenage boys” or the Location-based keyword “premium quality clothes for teenage boys in Miami, FLO”. Likewise, you should take your time with the image description.

4/ In addition to your mock-up and lead product photo, use other graphic elements such as infographics, illustrations, etc. You are selling T-shirts in POD store? Why not place a table with dimensions (S, M, L, XL, 2XL, etc.) of your shirts or a palette with all colors available?

5/ You are selling on a platform and must present your product on white background (R255 B255 G255)? OK, not so bad. In 2021 minimalism tendency affected e-commerce as well. White background ensures a feeling of balance and relaxation for potential buyers. It has also proved appropriate for entire product groups such as cosmetics and perfumes, trending accessories, mugs and cups, home products, etc. If this is the case, you could beat your competitors by choosing a product photo/mock-up set showing the product from different angles and showing different key elements.

In the end, please stick to our golden rule: A mock-up is worth a thousand words 😊
